A few days ago news breakout that Cyanogen Inc. is suspending all of its services by the end of this year. Cyanogen announced this new on their official blog saying, “The open source project and source code will remain available for anyone who wants to build CyanogenMod personally.“ CyanogenMod is an open-source operating system based on Android, developed 7 years ago by CyanogenMod open-source community.
Everybody was waiting for the community’s word on this matter, and they have spoken. CyanogenMod community launches Lineage OS, A new open source program that will carry forward the work of Cyanogen Inc. The community announced this news on their official blog saying “Yes this is us. LineageOS will be a continuation of what CyanogenMod was. To quote Andy Rubin, this is the definition of open. A company pulling their support out of an open source project does not mean it has to die.“
There are no further statements on how it will work and when the next rollout will begin, more information to be revealed on this Tuesday.
