A few weeks ago Intel revealed its credit card size computer device, the Compute Card. It is a full-fledged computer that packs CPU, GPU, and other hardware in a tiny credit card sized form factor. NexDock is the first product announced for the Intel’s Compute Card.
NexDock is a new product from Nex Computers that turns the Compute Card into a two in one personal computer. It will come with a touch screen panel and two slots on the sides. One slot is used for popping in the Compute Card and another one is there for attaching the custom hardware modules. The second slot is a slightly larger custom USB-C module that can be used to swap the I/O ports or additional battery packs depending on your requirement.
With the Compute Card, Intel is planning to bring the modular revolution to the PC market. The official description reads, “The Intel Compute Card has all the elements of a full computer, including Intel SoC, memory, storage and wireless connectivity with flexible I/O options so hardware manufacturers can optimize for their particular solutions – from interactive refrigerators and smart kiosks to security cameras and IoT gateways. Device makers simply design a standard Intel Compute Card slot into their device and then utilize the best Intel Compute Card for their performance and price needs.”
There is no news on the price and availability of the device. Currently, NexDock is only available as a concept. But with this concept Nex Computers are bringing an interesting turn to the idea of modular computers. Intel said they are working with manufacturers like Dell, HP, Lenovo and Sharp, to bring the similar products in the market.
Intel’s Compute Card is launching later this year, compatible products are expected to launch by the end of 2017.
Stay tuned for the updates.
