Samsung launched their new Bixby voice assistant with the Galaxy S8 smartphones which comes with a dedicated button on the side. The recently announced Galaxy Note 8 also includes this Bixby button, which you can’t remap or disabled. Samsung even tried to block the apps that let you remap the Bixby button. Android if popular for its flexibility and this stubborn moves from Samsung frustrated many Galaxy S8 owners.
A lot of owners also complained about the accidental triggers, the location of Bixby button sometimes summons the voice assistant while you are picking up the phone or adjusting the volume rocker. It looks like Samsung has finally realized the issue and tried to solve the problem with the recent OTA update.
Samsung has released a new on the air firmware update that allows the Galaxy S8 and Note 8 smartphone users to disable the Bixby button. The rollout is slow, so don’t worry if your device hasn’t gone the update yet. That said, Samsung still doesn’t allow you to remap the button. They just turned the annoying Bixby button into an annoying dead button. Let’s hope Samsung finally steps down and give us the full control over the hardware.
Stay tuned for the updates.
